Time is a constraint for all , rushing through the Drive-Thru windows and grabbing those sodium and fat loaded burgers and other junk food is no doubt one main reason of obesity in the US and unfortunately that could also be true for India in couple years..( Read http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4183086.stm ).
Even for grade school students, budget cuts
and lack of insights to nutritional food and supplements in the school's are also contributing to a new segment in the population 'obese kids'.
Its never been so important to stress on the importance of exercise and good eating habits, most food supplements touted to be loaded with protein, fiber and other 'stuff' supposed to be good for you taste awful and is expensive over the counter.Although many are aware of the perils of bad eating habits - thanks to many reports and studies by independent institutions.
But it’s a challenge to really figure what you need and how much of that do you need , for example how much calcium should a adult male intake daily ?
Also quality varies among different vitamin manufacturers so does the cost of similar dietary supplements. The biggest problem is that there is no regulatory body which supervises price , quality and safety which people know about or can recognize.
Most dietery supplement and minerals are impulse buys , its amazing how all these supplements are priced from store to store and generally the one with cheapest price and fancy packaging are being bought by ignorant consumers.
Which leads to misuse or even unneccesary intake of vitamins and other supplements which one may not need infact because of the growing concern of many weight realted issues people end up taking some drastic steps either by starving themselves and/or conuming bunch of pills which promise to help them loose fat ot convert it to lean muscle.
And most people would do anything to avoid exercise !
What we need is an unbiased non commercial , preferably a Government Institue which would certify and endorse all the manufacturers for Quality and Good Manufacturing Practices.
